The May-apple is a distinctive wildflower with the flower hanging below two leaves. This photo was taken along the Appalachian Trail.

The Flowering Dogwood tree is the official state flower of Virginia. Technically speaking, the showy white leaves are not a part of the flower; they are actually bracts not petals. But that doesn’t really matter to me.

For some reason, eastern tent caterpillars are attracted to black cherry trees.
