Carpenter Bee Hole

After seeing some unexplained sawdust, I noticed some carpenter bee holes on the undersides of our deck railings.  Carpenter bees drill 3/8″ round holes.

We have those every year. First we made a wooden paddle and killed them. Now we use a tennis racket. Had no choice they aren’t supposed to go into pressure treated wood, but they do. LOL

I got a couple with some Raid Wasp and Hornet spray, but I guess a tennis racket could do the trick as well! Thanks for sharing.

I actually found something to kill the carpenter bees. I had purchased Ortho’s Home Defense Max to spray around our house for insects and spiders since woods make up the majority of our backyard. When I noticed the round holes and tell tell sawdust on our new deck I knew we had carpenter bees. I sprayed in the holes and by that afternoon several carpenter bees were lying dead on the deck. Even the partially formed larvae had come out. The Ortho Home Defense Max comes in a 1.33 gallon jug. It uses the pull and spray method so your hands do not get tired of continuously spraying.

Sandra Smith, thank you very much for sharing the product recommendation. It sounds like it really did the trick!
