This deptford pink wildflower picture was taken near Burke Lake Park in Virginia.  The American Hiking Society rated the trail around Burke Lake one of the 10 Best Fitness Trails in the U.S.  The scenic trail is a little longer than 4 1/2 miles, is relatively flat, and is open to hikers, runners, and bicyclists.  Having grown up in Fairfax County, I have run around the lake many times training for the Robinson Cross Country Team and more recently when training for ultramarathons.  The distance around the lake makes your car an ideal aid station for doing multiple laps.  The most laps I have run consecutively around the lake is seven times around, when training for the Massanutten Mountain Trails 100 Miler race in 2001.
