Earlier this year, I purchased the Midland All Hazards Weather Alert Radio WR-300. This clock radio can be used on your nightstand to wake you up in the event of a weather emergency and potentially save the lives of you and your family.
I’m very pleased with the radio and its small size and styling works well in a bedroom setting, which is where you will want to keep a weather radio so it can wake you up in an emergency. A couple really nice features include:
- Programmable S.A.M.E. County Codes — These entries allow you to receive alerts for only the counties concerning you
- Selectable Alerts — This allows you to set which alert codes and levels trigger the alarm. For example, I have mine set up to wake me up in the event of a tornado warning, flood warning, immediate evacuation, and radiological hazard warning. However, I do not wish to be woken up for a flood watch, winter storm watch or freeze warning so the Midland weather radio is set accordingly.
My only criticism of the WR-300 Midland weather radio is that the small display of the current time is a bit difficult to read. There are two settings (black text on a gray background and black text on a blue background). Neither one is easy to read for me. Being nearsighted, with my glasses off, I have to put my face directly in front of the display in order to read it.
Despite the shortcomings of the display screen, I believe the MIDLAND WR300 Weather Radio is the best overall weather alert radio available today. I recommend it; click on the ad below to preview / order:
