This turkey vulture was making a meal out of a dead snake in the road.

My wife took this photo of a piliated woodpecker in Warren County, Virginia.

I notice some woodpeckers occasionally on a hickory tree in the yard.  Birds can be difficult to photograph without a powerful zoom as they like to fly away when approached.  I setup my automatic motion sensing camera to see what I could come up with.  The light is not too good in this shot, but the zebra-backed pattern of the bird matches the description in my Birds of Virginia Field Guide by Stan Tekiela.

This is a shot I took earlier this summer and decided not to post at the time.

I recently spotted this turkey in the backyard. I believe it is a female.
