Rue Anemone is a small, but attractive white wildflower. There are a couple of similar flowers that can be distinguished as follows:
- False Rue Anemone has much more deeply divided lobes on its leaves. There are always 5 petal-like sepals on false rue anemone. Rue Anemone can have more than 5 sepals. See also: Briartech.com
- Wood Anemone is a solitary flower (one flower per stem) so you will not see the flower clusters of rue anemone.
Windflowers are another name for the anemones since they are delicate and blow around easily in the breeze. This can make it challenging to get a decent photograph.
Here are some rue anemone pictures from this spring:

During a hike on the Appalachian Trail today, I was not sure what these wildflower were. After consulting my Wildflowers book, I identified them as Rue Anemone. They are small wildflowers with color ranging from white to pinkish-blue.
