According to the March/April 2007 edition of the Potomack News (newsletter of the Virginia Native Plant Society’s Potomac Chapter), there are 19 species of violets in the Piedmont and mountains of Virginia. These 19 types include:
- 9 purple (violet) violets
- 6 white violets
- 3 yellow violets
- 1 green violet
So far, I’m not enough of an expert yet to distinguish violets on anything other than their color. Here are a few shots from the yard this spring:
