Recommended Handheld Camera

Our handheld camera is a Canon Powershot SD1100 IS and we highly recommend it.  It is compact, easy to carry, and easy to use when hiking or running.  It shoots excellent clear photos and videos.  There is a digital macro mode allowing for great closeup shots.  Like other digital cameras today, the included memory card has very little capacity so upgrading to a high capacity card is also recommended:

Recommended Trailcam

We purchased our Moultrie automatic digital game camera from Cabela’s. The camera runs off a single six volt battery. I recommend using a memory card so you can download pictures without having to uninstall the camera. You might also want to invest in a rechargable 6 volt battery. Here is a similar automatic camera available via Amazon.com:

Note: You can buy a camera with an infrared flash if you spend a bit more. This can be useful if you want to take night shots that aren’t bleached out by a regular flash. See Night Deer Shots for more information.
