Before the last snowfall melted, I photographed these animal tracks. I did not have a tape measure with me, but laid down a glove for scale. Any thoughts on what animal may have made these tracks?

There looks to be about 1/4 inch of ice is coating the trees today at Old Dominion Wildlife headquarters. Power has flickered off a couple of times, but is on for now. Tonight’s breezy weather could cause power line trouble.

I did not need my Scats and Tracks field guide to identify these squirrel tracks because I witnessed the squirrel lay them down. When bounding, the eastern grey squirrel can place it’s hind prints on it’s front prints leaving tracks like those seen here.

I noticed this scat on the Appalachian Trail. After consulting my Scats and Tracks field guide, identification cannot be absolute. On one hand, the constrictions seen are associated with mountain lion and bobcat scat. The diameter of the scat is too narrow for an adult mountain lion and is more consistent with bobcat scat size.…
