Redwinged Blackbird
I saw this red-winged blackbird today at Piedmont Vineyards, which is the oldest vineyard and winery in Virginia.

Bird Photography
Without any special lenses, I find bird photography very challenging with my point-and-shoot camera as birds tend to fly away when approached. Does anyone recommend an affordable, decent telephoto/zoom lens digital camera?
Virginia Bird Photography Blog
I found this impressive Virginia wildlife blog specializing in Virginia bird photography recently, which I added to the links panel at the left. The site is the Coastal Virginia Wildlife Observatory photo blog.
Photographing Birds

American Robin
I can get pretty good wildflower photographs with a point-and-shoot camera, but photographing birds is much more difficult. Often, birds fly away before I can get close enough for a good shot. Other times, woodpeckers hide on the back side of trees when they see me.
Eventually, I may buy a digital SLR camera with a better zoom. Until then, I’ll just keep trying with a point and shoot camera. This robin picture was taken with my point-and-shoot camera through a window in the foyer.
My wife took this photo of a piliated woodpecker in Warren County, Virginia.
