I spotted and photographed this box turtle was spotted in our front yard.

I stopped the car and moved this box turtle out of the road. I put him off to the side in the direction it appeared to be going.

We saw another box turtle on our recent hike at the Bull Run Mountain Conservancy.  I believe this one is a male, based on his eyes.

Shortly after seeing the box turtle in our yard, we spotted this box turtle while hiking at the Bull Run Mountain Conservancy.

This box turtle picture was taken in our backyard.   According to Amphibians & Reptiles of the Carolinas and Virginia, adult female eastern box turtles brown or yellow eyes, whereas males often have red eyes.
