The bracts have now fallen off, but the dogwood in our front yard was looking nice this spring.

A couple of weeks ago, 3/4″ of snow fell here. Last night and today we’re having our second winter event in the form of ice accumulating on trees, decking, etc.

The Flowering Dogwood tree is the official state flower of Virginia. Technically speaking, the showy white leaves are not a part of the flower; they are actually bracts not petals. But that doesn’t really matter to me.

11/02/2007–This picture was taken through the kitchen window as a black bear investigated the mulch around our dogwood tree.
