Today was the first full day of astronomical spring (meteorological spring began back on March 1st). This past snow season resulted in a little less than two feet of snow at Old Dominion Wildlife Headquarters, which is below average for my location according to this map showing average snowfall for northern Virginia and Maryland. [Does anyone know of an average snowfall map for all of Virginia?]

Additionally, the GFS weather model is currently showing some precip this coming Saturday night/Sunday that might produce snow over portions of northern Virginia…
I’m still getting the hang of my new cross country skis. The 10″ snowfall on 01/26/2011 provided a great opportunity for some ski practice runs today. I skied down the front yard and used a herringbone technique to climb back up the driveway.

Not a major event, but a clipper system provided the first measurable snow of the season to Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains in Northern Virginia. Latest measurement 7/16ths of an inch.
